The Dunellen Fire Department and Dunellen Defender Fire Co. No. 1 are always accepting new members. We have several membership categories available. For more information on joining the Dunellen Fire Department, feel free to email joindfd@dunellenfd.com.
A Firefighter who is subject to call and is on active duty. Each applicant for active membership must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and be capable of performing all duties required of an active firefighter. New members shall live within one (1) mile radius of the Dunellen border.
A member 16 years of age until his/her 18th birthday. A firefighter who is subject to call and active duty, but due to his/her age, is restricted in the duties they are able to perform. Students of Dunellen High School may find that Junior Firefighter membership can meet the Community Service Program requirements.
This is a secondary Fire Company membership extended to a person who has not been a Dunellen Firefighter and who does not desire to become a firefighter, who is not subject to fire calls and is not on active duty due to reasons of health, personal obligations or geographical limitations. An Associate Member supports the Fire Company administrative operations and events, but is not an emergency responder. An associate member attend all fire company meetings, fundraising activities, all special events or other events, and upon request by the incident commander, attend fire scenes to support non-emergency activities.
