Dunellen Defender Fire Company #1

This morning, at 0045hrs our members and automatic aid from Green Brook Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to 120 North Washington Ave, The Dunellen Hotel & Rathskeller for a reported fire in the basement. Upon the arrival of Dunellen Borough Police Department and our Deputy Chief, a 2nd alarm was transmitted, shortly followed by a 3rd alarm. It was confirmed that all occupants evacuated and crews began suppression activities. Additional crews conducted a secondary search for occupants, finding none. Although the bulk of the fire was quickly extinguished, crews chased pockets of fire within the walls and eventual cleared the scene at approximately 0415 hrs. There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Middlesex County Fire Marshall's Office.

We would like to thank the following agencies who assisted during the fire suppression:
New Market Fire Department
Middlesex Boro Fire Department
South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department
North Stelton Volunteer Fire Company

Dunellen Rescue Squad provided firefighter rehab

Dunellen OEM provided assistance along with the Red Cross for the displaced residents of the building. Mayor Jason F. Cilento was also on scene to provide the support of the Borough.

Standing by to provide coverage for additional fire emergencies:
River Road Fire Company
Metuchen Fire Department
